Photographer.  Social media, blogs and your online portfolio pop when you add photos. You need to know enough about photography to  take good photos and make sure good photos are taken of you. Laying out readable, visually enticing web  content will improve the popularity of your own site, and knowing  the tools and resources available gives you the bells and whistles  of the big-time designers. Social media manager. Social media is used to communicate, promote, inform, educate, build community, share ideas, and so much more. Understanding how to use social media  for your job search will increase the reach of your message and build stronger ties to people you know. Employers are using it to tap into talent, so dont overlook the importance or power of social media. Search engine optimization. Getting found online happens when the words in your online profiles, personal website and any content you publish to the web matches the words recruiters are searching for. Knowledge of search engine optimization  ensures that anything you post or create online will  maximize the right tags and keywords to make it easily found  when someone is searching the Internet. Business consultant. Every business needs a consultant to help solve problems. Whatever occupation you pursue, consider  yourself a consultant in that area. Stay up on trends  and provide solutions; you are more than just an employee, and  you must deliver results. Hiring manager. What goes through the mind of someone who needs to hire a new employee? When you try to think like a hiring manager, the person whom you will  ultimately report to, youll present your qualifications in terms they will relate to and appreciate. Young Women Are the Most Bored at Work. Here’s What We Can Do About it (Part 2) Hallie was honored to be featured in a recent Glamour.com article about how to avoid being bored at work. As a follow up to this article, we wanted to share some additional tips with you. Many women feel bored at work, and there could be several reasons for this. Their job may not be meeting their career values and therefore theyre not motivated inherently by their work. Others may not feel like theyre making a difference- or the difference they want to be making. Others may not be fully aware of the skills they want to use and develop, and their jobs are not leveraging those skills so they dont feel they are growing professionally. Sometimes women, more than men, dont know what their career goals are or lack career direction because in some cases they may not have been encouraged early on to consider what they wanted to do professionally, so they may not be in the right career fit, or bored because they lack focus and an agenda for what they want to achieve. Here are three things you can do to avoid feeling bored at work: 1. Identify your values. When women identify and align their career with their career values, they will have more career direction, a better sense of their identity professionally, and understand what their career goals need to be. Having a job aligned with your values gives you a sense of reward and fulfillment that goes beyond any day to day frustrations or boredom you might have at work. 2. Get inspired by others creativity. Look at posts from other women who inspire you, whether this be a life story or a DIY project on Pinterest to get new creative ideas on how to approach your tasks at work. Identify women you admire whose qualities you want to adopt or emulate, and whose career gives you a sense of what youd like to aspire to. 3. Spend time with positive colleagues. Spend more time with people at work you admire, who are doing new things, are creative and inspiring. Use your time with them to come up with new ways to approach your tasks at work. Take time each week to have lunch with a friend outside of work as well. Make sure you have a blend of time inside and outside the office to mix things up, beat boredom, and come back to the office re-energized. Finally, find another job. If you find that your job doesnt fulfill any of your work values and nothing takes away your boredom after 4-6 months, it may be time to find another job.

Millennials Still Asking Parents for Help With Rent According to a new analysis done for the New York Times, 40% of people in their early 20s get financial help from their parents to cover living expenses like rentâ€"and the average payout is around $3,000 per year. Some millennials are more likely to get help than others: 53% of young people who studied art and design reportedly receive financial assistance from their parents, to the tune of $3,600 a year, on average. By contrast, 30% of millennials in the military or blue-collar job fields have been getting help with the rent from their parents, and they receive $1,400 per year. The data comes from interviews with young people from 2007 to 2013 for the Transition into Adulthood Study, which is conducted by researchers at the Institute of Social Research at the University of Michigan. In our previous coverage of the issue, we found that 30% of parents offering financial support for their adult children fork over at least $5,000 a year. What’s more, unsurprisingly, parents think kids should be out on their own sooner: In a survey commissioned by MONEY, parents said that adult children should be financially independent by age 25. The adult children, on the other hand, want a couple extra years, and say that 27 is the right age for fully supporting oneself.

Your motivation sucksDont just set a goal because you think it makes you look good on social media or because youre trying to impress someone. The format you should use and the information you should highlight depends upon your field, for starters. The answer to the age-old question of how long should my resume be? is that it depends upon how much time youve got under your belt. Use keywords to help you break through When recruiters post jobs, Salemi says, they typically dont read every resume that comes intheyll often start by having their applicant tracking system (a fancy name for recruiting software) filter out resumes based on keywords. Those keywords are terms or phrases the hiring manager has deemed to be valuable to the job.So youll want to pack your resume with keywords but you also need to be careful not to gooverboard, since a human will hopefully read your resume eventually.Thus, sprinkle those keywords throughout and provide a little bit of context with each.
